GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—OCTOBER 2, 2010—Spit Curl Diva, owned by Lepic-Morgan Partnership and trained by Jody Brown, won the 14th running of the Grade 1 $100,000 Refrigerator Handicap over a fast track on Saturday night at Lone Star Park.

Ridden by David Brown, the sorrel daughter of Spit Curl Jess used a quick burst from the gate to establish early command and never looked back. The time for the 440-yard distance was 21.366, earning a speed index of 98. It was a head back to a hard-charging Stolis Winner in second and another nose back to third-place finisher King Brimmerton.

“She’s the most amazing horse we’ve ever had,” said winning trainer Jody Brown. “She always trains like a million dollars and she always gives it everything she has on the racetrack”

“She just seems to always break running and she has a big heart,” added winning rider David Brown.

With the win, Spit Curl Diva improved her record to 15 wins form 28 starts, and increased her career earnings to $638,438 with the $55,000 winner’s purse.

Jerry Windham’s Stolis Winner entered the race needing a win to surpass the race’s namesake as the all-time, leading money winner in American Quarter Horse racing history. With his runner-up finish and $17,000 second-place money, the gelded son of champion Stoli moved to within $11,578 of Refrigerator’s record $2,126,309.

Spit Curl Diva paid $19.80, $7.60, $4.60, runner-up Stolis Winner returned $5.60, $3.60, and King Brimmerton paid $6.20 for show.

Charal Kid, Swingin Daddyo, Mon Ti Stoli, Jess You and I, Comin Thru, Point of Deception, and Vodka With Ice completed the order of finish.
