Photo by Dustin Orona PhotographyOKLAHOMA CITY, OK—APRIL 22, 2007—In the Grade 2, $222,336 Remington Park Derby, First Carolina stayed perfect in her career at Remington Park by posting a 1-3/4 lengths win.
Owned by Madill, Okla. partnership of Weetona Stanley and William E. Smith, First Carolina has started five times at Remington Park, never losing. In addition to her Derby win this year, she also won the Heritage Place Futurity here a year ago. Trained by Heath Taylor and ridden by Carter, First Carolina also just missed a track record as she easily handled 400 yards in :19.56, just three hundredths of a second off the mark. She earned an AQHA Speed Index of 105 in the derby. The derby was the fifth career score from six attempts for First Carolina, an Oklahoma-bred filly by Mr Jess Perry from the Dash For Cash mare First Prize Dash. The winner’s share of $100,055 gives First Carolina $396,841 overall. Jess Tie Quik was second while Dashing Uno was third.
The 3-5 wagering favorite, First Carolina paid $3.40 to win, $3.20 to place and $2.60 to show. Jess Tie Quik paid $6 to win and $3.80 to show. Dashing Uno paid $16.80 to show.
