Robert Edwards PhotoOPELOUSAS, LA—DECEMBER 4, 2009—World record holder Fast Prize Zoom will face nine rivals on Saturday night when she returns from a five-month layoff in the $50,000 Evangeline Downs Derby. Racing for breeder Weetona Stanley and co-owner W.E. Smith, the grade 1 winning Shazoom filly is 3-0-2 from seven lifetime starts with earnings of $190,875. She kicked off what looked to be brilliant career at Sunland Park last spring when she broke the 300 yard world record while posting the fastest time in the West Texas Futurity(G1) trials. She returned two week later to re-break her own world record while running 300 yards in :14.678 seconds, a 112 speed index. In her next start she was a 1 ¼ length Rainbow Futurity trial winner to post the fastest qualifying time. She weakened in the finals and finished fourth to world champion Stolis Winners, PB And Crackers and All American Derby(G1) winner Inseperable. Trained this season by Heath Taylor, she returned to the races on June 14th with a third place effort in an allowance at Ruidoso Downs. In her last start she was a disappointing ninth in the Rainbow Derby trials. Jerrod Dischamp will get the riding call for the first-time aboard the brown miss who has previously been piloted by champion jockey G.R. Cater, Jr. Fast Prize Zoom has been installed as the morning-line's second favorite at 3-1. Lukin Gilliand's Jody O Toole filly, Lassie O Toole's has been named the morning-line favorite at 5-2. Saddled by Dave Correll and ridden by Jose Vega, Lassie O Toole was seventh in her last start, the grade 1 Bayer Legend Derby Challenge Championship at Los Alamitos Race Course, after being bumped at the start. Prior to that outing the sorrel filly won the Gentilly Dash Stakes at the Fairgrounds on September 11th. She also won the Bayer Legend East Challenge and Firecracker Derby at Delta Downs this year. She is 6-3-1 from 13 lifetime starts with earnings of $155,270. Louisiana Derby third place finisher Martini Mountain and Bayer Legend East Derby third place finisher of each been installed at 6-1. |
