SPIT CURL DIVA SETS SECOND STRAIGHT TRACK RECORD Date Posted: 4/18/2010 4:04:59 AM Spit Curl Diva sets her second consecutive track record at Remington Park while winning the Bob Moore Memorial Stakes(G3) on Saturday. Dustin Orona PhotographyOKLAHOMA CITY, OK—APRIL 18, 2010—The Grade 2, $50,000 Bob Moore Memorial Stakes was won in new track record time by the streaking Spit Curl Diva. She won her third consecutive race of the season and set her second distance record in doing so.
Owned by the Iowa City, Iowa partnership of Lepic-Morgan, Spit Curl Diva is trained by Jody Brown and was ridden to victory by her husband David Brown. The 4-year-old mare added the Bob Moore to wins in an allowance in early March and the Decketta Handicap at the end of the same month. In the Decketta, at 350 yards, Spit Curl Diva set a new track record and owned it for about 25 minutes before it was broken in the very next race on the March 27 card by JA Golsablazin in the Oklahoma Derby. Saturday night, there was no quick takeaway as Spit Curl Diva’s clocking in the Bob Moore, 14.899 seconds for 300 yards, stood at least for the rest of the night with no other races at the distance on the slate. Spit Curl Diva jumped quickly to the lead in the Bob Moore and was never seriously threatened as she pulled away to win by three-quarters of a length over Smokin Past You. One Diamond Kitty was third. The win was the 11th in 23 career attempts for Spit Curl Diva, an Oklahoma-bred daughter of SPIT CURL JESS from the Some Dasher mare Some Kinda Diva. She was bred by Little Deer Creek Quarter Horses. A winner of five Remington Park races with all 10 of her Oklahoma City attempts landing in the top three (5 wins, 4 seconds and a third), Spit Curl Diva earned $32,500 in the Bob Moore to run her career total to $525,039. The wagering favorite at 2-1 odds, Spit Curl Diva paid $6.60 to win, $4.80 to place and $3.20 to show. Smokin Past You paid $9.60 to place and $5.80 to show. One Diamond Kitty returned $4 to show. Completing the field were Smokin Past Ouickid Corona, Royal Proclamation, Show Me Your Toole, Sea Ola Go, Duck Mea Running and Zevi Fling. The Bob Moore Memorial is raced in honor of the late owner and breeder who was prominent in American Quarter Horse racing for more than a quarter-century and who based his breeding operation in Norman, Okla. |
