Carter, Jr.'s fourth winner on Sunday's card at Remington Park. © Dustin Orona Photo OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—APRIL 03, 2011—Distance runners were featured in the 13th and final race on Remington Park's Sunday’s program, the Grade 3, $35,000 Pauls Valley Handicap. Winning around the turn at 870 yards was Jess Jones who pulled a mild upset at 5-1 odds.
Owned J.D. Anderson of Froid, Mont. and trained by Monty Brooks, Jess Jones was ridden by G.R. Carter who won his fourth race on the program. An Oklahoma-bred 7-year-old, Jess Jones won his first 870-yard race at Remington Park and defeated a quality field in the process. Jess Jones won the Pauls Valley by 3-1/4 lengths in :45.198 seconds over the fast track. Bonified Man was second with Skyline Lover third. Finishing up the track in sixth was Stone E Motion, last year’s local Distance Champion. Vital Winner, who had never been out of the top three in his Remington Park career, was disqualified to last for interference in the turn. The horse by Mr Jess Perry from the Disco Jerry (TB) mare Disco Del Rey was bred by Ladybug Stallion Station's Fred Stanley of Madill, Oklahoma. Jess Jones won his 10th career race from 31 starts and his seventh at Remington Park. The winner’s check for the Pauls Valley score is $21,000, increasing the lifetime earnings for Jess Jones to $164,159. Completing the field were Heza Marquette Maker, Money For Nuthin, Vital Winner, Stone E Motion and Street Meter. Vital Winner as placed sixth after carrying his foe out. |
