CHAMPION MARE SPIT CURL DIVA RETURNS TO WINNERS CIRCLE Date Posted: 6/5/2011 12:45:50 AM Two-time champion mare Spit Curl Diva picked up another stakes win in the Golden Driller Stakes at Fair Meadows on Saturday night. © Dustin Orona PhotographyTULSA, OK—JUNE 4, 2011—Two-time 2010 American Quarter Horse Racing Champion Spit Curl Diva returned to the winner's circle for the first time this season scoring a neck victory in the $22,500 Golden Driller Stakes at Fair Meadows.
The 5-year-old mare picked up her 17th career win and the $13,034 winner's purse pushed her career earning mare to nearly $741,000. Ridden by David Brown the sorrel miss completed the 350 yards in :17.454 seconds. Ironically Spit Curl Diva holds the 350 yard track record at Fair Meadows of :17.200 which she set on June 10, 2009. Jody Brown trains the SPIT CURL JESS mare for the Lepic-Moran Partnership. She was bred in Oklahoma by Little Deer Creek Quarter Horses from the Some Dasher mare Some Kinda Diva. James Sills Kitas Best Yet was a game second under jockey Cody Smith. Saddled by Eddie Willis, the 5-year-old earned $3,928. He was bred in Oklahoma by Bill Price. Dan and Jolene Urschel's Shakem Blue also posted a game effort to finish third by nose of the leaders. The gelding is trained by Stacey Capps and was ridden by Berkley Packer. He was bred in Texas by Danny Spiess and picked up $2,160 for the effort. Completing the field were First Arctic Dash, Freddysonahotstreak, Feature My Lover B, Runnin For Your Life, Cash This Wagon and Radioflyin. |
