JESSTA LIL SPITFIRE ROMPS IN CHEROKEE NATION STAKES Date Posted: 8/5/2012 4:34:45 PM Jessta Lil Spitfire, under jockey G.R. Carter, Jr., winning the Cherokee Nation Stakes at Fair Meadows Racecourse. Gene Wilson & Associates PhotoTULSA, OK—AUGUST 4, 2012—Rick and Connie Dickson's homebred Jessta Lil Spitfire was much the best Saturday evening as she romped to a one-length victory in the $22,5000 Cherokee Nation Stakes for 2-year-olds at Fair Meadows.
Under jockey G.R. Carter, Jr., the SPIT CURL JESS filly completed the 350 yards course in :17.676 seconds into an 11 mph headwind. The $13,196 winner's purse nearly doubled her career total to $28,319. Bred in Oklahoma from the Pas Seul mare Ima Disco Dancer, the Clinton Crawford trainee has won three of five starts this season. Coming off a maiden claiming win on June 28, Noel Prieto's Brace For Bernal put in a late rally to finish second, earning $4,732. The Furyofthewind colt out of Zoom Bracer, by Shazoom, is trained by Luis Villafranco and ridden by Juan Vazquez. Joaquin Lopez is the breeder. Fisher Of Men, a Fishers Dash gelding owned and trained by Crawford, settled for third a half-length back. Alex Baldillez, Jr. was aboard the sorrel out of the Dashing Val mare My Monica.
Completing the field were Hm Tresaces, Swift Hero and Thatsnowivoryjames. Cartel Dynasty was scratched.
