SPIT CURL JESSE GETS SECOND STAKES WIN
IN GCFA FUTURITY ON SUNDAY
Spit Curl Jesse scored his second futurity win of the season in the Grade 3 GCFA Futurity at the Gillespie County Fair on Sunday.
M. Zara / White Oak StudioFREDERICKSBURG, TXAUGUST 26, 2012Reys Vasquez' Spit Curl Jess raced to his second futurity win of the season Sunday afternoon in the $120,400 Grade 3 GCFA Futurity at the Gillespie County Fair.
Under jockey Thomas Ramirez, the brown gelding got a clean trip and got up to win by a nose over Cougar Hill in the final stride. The SPIT CURL JESS 2-year-old completed the 350 yard course in :17.618 seconds, a 98 speed index into a 10 mph headwind.
Candelario Montes, Jr. trains Spit Curl Jesse who also won the TQHQ Futurity at Gillespie on July 21. He is 3-0-1 in four starts and has earned $56,385. Juan Escalante bred him in Texas from the First Down Laveaux mare Linda Laveaux.
Spit Curl Jesse went off as the post-time favorite, paying $8.80 to win, $4.00 to place and $2.80 to show.
Fastest qualifier Cougar Hill is owned Luis Armando Castellanos and trained by Judy Beavin. The Panther Mountain filly, which also qualified to the $252,317 Lassie Futurity(RG2) at Delta early this season, nearly doubled her earnings to $18,060. Jerry Yoakum had the riding assignment. Bolivar Bishop and Aaron Cooper bred Cougar Hill from the Sir Cashanova mare Lovers Dash.
Cruzin Finish finished a neck back in the show position for owner Jose Alonso Graniel. Eusevio Huitron trains the Shazoom filly who earned $12,040 for the effort. Luis Vivanco rode the filly bred in Texas by Johnny Trotter and Burnett Ranches. She is out of Jess Crusin, by Mr Jess Perry.
Completing the field were Queenoffury, Haleys Dashing Hoe, Bobcat Moon, Cash N Fdd Dynasty, Cunning And Coy, Rdd Dashin Effort and Pieceofperfection.
