The 3-year-old filly won the $23,500 allowance by a head in a three-way photo over Eyesa Romantic and LT Count It.
Owned by Cuadra Landrilleros Ltd. Co. of Yukon, Okla. and trained by Bonafacio Almanza, SS Calendar Girl was ridden by Raul Gutierrez. The Oklahoma-bred filly won her first two career races here in 2012, including the FL Lady Bug Stakes on Oklahoma Speedfest Day. Returning to Oklahoma City for her first start of 2013, SS Calendar Girl had to dig in to remain perfect at Remington Park, crossing the finish in :15.478 seconds over a fast track. Away at 9-2 odds in the wagering, SS Calendar Girl paid $11.20 to win, $6.20 to place and $3.80 to show. Eyesa Romantic lost by a head, paying $30.60 to place and $14.40 to show. Another head back in third was LT Count It who paid $2.80 to show. Dale N James was the beaten 8-5 wagering favorite, finishing sixth. An Oklahoma-bred 3-year-old filly by Finding Nemo from the Mr Jess Perry mare First Prize Robin, SS Calendar Girl has now won four career races from five attempts overall. The winner’s share of the purse, $16,330, moves her lifetime earnings to $52,426. First Prize Robin, winner of the Grade 1 Remington Park Futurity, is a full-sister to Stanley Bred Grade 1 winners First Prize Leesa ($488,270) and First Carolina ($$415,047). The second dam is the Lady Bug Stallion Station foundation mare First Prize Dash a former Broodmare of the Year and full-sister to all-time leading sire First Down Dash. |
