Easily the most impressive of the five was Coronado Cartel who dominated his trial and was a full-tenth of a second faster than the next best on the night.
Owned by Reliance Ranches of Llano, Texas and trained by Eddie Willis, Coronado Cartel was ridden by Jimmy Brooks. The big colt was professional in his effort as he pulled clear of his trial rivals to win by two lengths, crossing the 330-yard finish in :16.648 seconds over the fast track. The trial win was the second from as many attempts this season for the precocious Coronado Cartel. The $290,000 Ruidoso Select Sale yearling started his career with a maiden score in March before romping in his trial. Weetona Stanley and William Smith, of Madill, Oklahoma bred the Corona Cartel colt from the Mr Jess Perry mare First Carolina, Coronado Cartel was bred in Madill, Okla. He is a full brother to Rainbow Juvenile winner and All American Futurity(G1) finalist Denver Pass. The $8,784 winner’s share of the trial boosts the two-race career earnings for Coronado Cartel to $21,428.
