RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—JULY 5, 2013—Johnny Trotter and Burnett Ranches’ Ms First Prize Rose raced to a one-and-one-half length win in the seventh trial to give trainer Blane Wood his third horse in the Rainbow Futurity on Friday. He qualified two horses on Thursday.

A new qualifying format was instituted this year with the two-year-olds racing to the five fastest times on Thursday joining the horses recording the five-fastest times on Friday in the 400-yard finals on July 21.

The $1 million purse is an all-time record for the Rainbow Futurity, surpassing the $700,000 purses in 2011 and 2012.

Bred by Weetona Stanley and W.E. Smth, Ms First Prize Rose is a daughter of leading sire Corona Cartel and First Carolina, by Mr Jess Perry. She was third in a maiden race at Sam Houston Race Park and then came to Ruidoso Downs to win her Ruidoso Futurity trial by a neck after a troubled start.

The bay filly completed the 400 yard course in :19.417 seconds to post the second fastest time on Friday and the fourth fastest overall to the rich futurity.

Coronado Cartel, winner of the $720,000 Remington Park Futurity and a full brother to Ms First Prize Rose had the seventh fastest time on day two and qualified to Rainbow Juvenile Invitational. Owned by Reliance Ranches, LLC, he has won three of four starts this season an earned $310,000.

Also qualifying to the Rainbow Juvenile was Dan and Jolene Ursche's Cr Tuckernuck. The Jet Black Patriot colt out of Fast Prize Corona was also bred by Weetona Stanley and W.E. Smith. Earlier this season he was a finalist to the Oklahoma Futurity(G2) at Remington Park and won his trial for the Ruidoso Futurity(G1).
