SPIT CURL JESS COLTS TOP SPEEDHORSE FUTURITY TRIALS, SS CALENDAR GIRL BEST DERBY QUALIFIER

TULSA, OK—JULY 19, 2013—A pair of Spit Curl Jess 2-year-olds won two-of-five trials to restricted Grade 2 Speedhorse Futurity Friday at Fair Meadows to clock the top two qualifying times.

The 10 fastest 2-year-olds, from the 37 head that started, will return to the Tulsa racetrack on Friday, August 2nd and vie for a share of the $127,898 purse.

Making only his third career start, Spit Dash picked up his second straight victory with a one-length effort over Truly Valiant in the third trial. Under jockey James Flores the Spit Curl Jess colt completed the 350 yard course in the fastest qualifying time of :17.763 seconds. A 10 mph headwind blew consistently throughout Friday's trial races.

Jose Estrada saddled the sorrel for Manuel Mata. Willow Ridge Farms bred Spit Dash in Oklahoma from the First Down Dash mare De Elegant Dash. He has earned $15,572.

Coming off a runner-up effort in the $75,000 Heritage Place Juvenile Invitational on June 1, Spit Like Jagger got his third win in five starts this season with a head victory in the first trial over The Candy Says Bye. His time of :17.787 was the second fastest.

The first of three finalists conditioned by Rodney Reed, Reed and Steve Wilson own Spit Like Jagger. Weetona Stanley and W.E. Smith bred the Spit Curl Jess colt in Oklahoma from the Corona Cartel mare Fast Prize Corona. He has earned more than $37,000 this season.

Reed also saddled 10th qualifier Spit Curl Ten a gelded son of Spit Curl Jess out of Oh What A Perks, by Dash For Perks. Weetona Stanley bred the sorrel gelding owned by Jeffery Strange.

SS Calendar Girl Tops Speedhorse Derby Trials

SS Calendar Girl returned to win column Friday night at Fair Meadows as she posted the fastest qualifying time from two trial races contested for the 2013 Speedhorse Derby(RG3).

The 10 fastest 3-year-olds will return to the Tulsa racecourse on Friday, August 2 and vie for the winner's share of a $32,842 purse over 350 yards.

After kicking off her 3-year-old season with an Allowance win at Remington Park last Spring the bay miss has failed to light the board in two derby trials and a stakes at the Remington Park meet.

Under jockey Jesus Salazar SS Calendar Girl got the first call and was a game winner by half-a-length over Feline Chic. Her time of :17.439 seconds, a 95 speed index, was the fastest for both trial races.

Bonifacio Almanza conditions the Finding Nemo filly out of Weetona Stanley bred Remington Park Futurity(G1) winner First Prize Robin, by Mr Jess Perry, for Cuadra Ladrilleros Ltd. Co. Bred in Oklahoma by Lloyd Scherwinski and W.E. Smith the brown miss has won five of nine career starts and earned $55,938. She won the FL Lady Bug Stakes at Remington Park as a 2-year-old.
