Spit Like Jagger, out of Fast Prize Corona, and SS Calendar Girl, out of First Prize Robin, were respectively crowned the 2013 Speedhorse winners. Other stakes winners this season from this female line include Rainbow Futurity(G1) winner Ms First Prize Rose, Remington Park Futurity(G1) winner Coronado Cartel, Eastex Handicap(G2) and Mr Jet Moore Stakes winner Fast Prize Jordan and Mighty Deck Three Handicap winner Fast Prize Mike. Speedhorse Gold & Silver Cup Futurity(RG2) Split Like Jagger led a trifecta for trainer Rodney Reed as he raced to his fourth win in six starts on Friday with a 1 ½ length victory in the $127,898 Speedhorse Gold & Silver Cup Futurity at Fair Meadows. Ridden by AQHA Racing champion jockey G.R. Carter, Jr. he completed the 350 yards in :17.573 seconds into a 10 mph headwind. Racing for Steve Wilson and Reed the Spit Curl Jess 2-year-old earned $48,602 to double his earnings mark to $85,876. Two races back he was a close second to TQHA Sale Futurity(RG1) winner Won To Watch in the Heritage Place Juvenile Invitational at Remington Park. Weetona Stanley and W.E. Smith bred Spit Like Jagger in Oklahoma from the Corona Cartel mare Fast Prize Corona. Spit Curl Ten showed late interest to finish a nose in front of Jess One More Thing. Reed saddled both. Ridden by Mike Frederick for owner Jeffery Strange, the lightly raced Spit Curl Ten earned $21,743 for his effort, bringing his season total to $36,971. Also bred by Weetona Stanley, the sorrel gelding is out of Oh What A Perks. This Dash For Perks mare is yet another female from the First Prize Dash line. Reed put jockey Berkley Packer aboard Jess One More Thing for owner/breeder Steve Holt. The Fly Jess Fly filly out of Crazy About Corona, picked up $14,069 to push her earnings mark past $57,000. Two races back she was third in the Fair Meadows Juvenile Stakes and was also a finalist in the $720,000 Remington Park Futurity last April. Completing the field were Pappas Corona, This Candy Says Bye, Spit Dash, Strawfly Moon, Inevitable Success and Candy Alert. Speedhorse Gold & Silver Cup Derby Fastest qualifier SS Calendar Girl rolled to a wire-to-wire 1-¼ length victory in the $32,842 Speedhorse Gold & Silver Cup Derby at Fair Meadows on Friday night. Under jockey Jesus Salazar SS Calendar Girl completed the 350 yards in :17.455 seconds, a 95 speed index. The Finding Nemo filly picked up $12,480 to push her earnings mark to $68,418. It was the sixth win in 10 starts for the filly out of Grade 1 Remington Park Futurity winner First Prize Robin, by Mr Jess Perry. Bonifacio Almanza saddled the winner for owner Cuadra Ladrilleros Ltd. Co. Lloyd Scherwinsky and William E. Smith are the breeder. Keith Bretz' Tj Blue Bank finished second for trainer Dee Keener. James Flores rode the gelding. Bred in Oklahoma by Lee Roy Humpry, Tj Blue Bank earned $5,583 for the effort. Ridden by Paul Nieto, Feline Chick finished a length back in the show position for owner Eugene Hill. Luis Villafranco is the trainer. Bred by Richard Joneson, she earned $3,613. Fiery Cartel, Ride My Wagon, Pappasitos Zoom, Regal Appeal, Icu Holy Messenger and Ms Mary Lane completed the field. |
