Lady Bug Stallion StationNEW ORLEANS, LA—AUGUST 23, 2013—Six of the 10 finalists Friday afternoon for the restricted grade 1 LQHBA Sale Futurity are related to former Broodmare of the Year First Prize Dash either with through their sire or dam side.
The 10 fastest Louisiana-bred two-year-olds, from the 79 head who participated in nine trials at the Fair Grounds Race Course, will return Tuesday, September 12 and vie for the winner's portion of a $286,560 purse over 350 yards. The winner will walk away with $114,624. Heza Fast Dash, a son of First Prize Dash, sired three finalists including fastest qualifier Philips Streakin. First Prize Perry, also a son of First Prize Dash, sired the second fastest qualifier. First crop sire Fast Prize Dash, a great-grandson of First Prize Dash, sired the fourth fastest qualifier and 9th qualifier First Prize Jet is a granddaughter of the "blue-hen" mare through her dam First Prize Diamond. Philips Streakin established himself as the top contender when he rolled to a 1-˝ length victory in the first trial under jockey Martin Rubalcava. Coming off a second place effort in the $50,000 Louisiana Juvenile Stakes on July 13, the Heza Fast Dash gelding posted the top time of :17.649, a 94 speed index into a 15 mph head wind. Fructuoso Huitron conditions the 2-year-old for owner Jaime Torres. Rodney and Phillip Debenedetto bred Philips Streakin from the Streakin La Jolla mare Six Streakin Salute. He has earned nearly $40,000 this season. Scooter Prize who broke her maiden at Delta Downs on June 28 got her second consecutive win in the fifth trial under jockey Raul Ramirez, Jr. Ana Alvidrez owns the First Prize Perry filly out of Royal Baby Scooter, by A Royale High. Miguel Rodriguez trains the earner of more than $57,000. Bred by John Leger, Scooter Prize completed the 350 yards in :17.679 to clock the second fastest time. Coming off a fourth place effort in the $564,000 Lee Berwick Futurity(RG1), on July 13, Heza Fast Rogue got his third win in six starts in the third trial. Donald Watson rode the bay colt to a three-quarter-length win and the third fastest time of :17.727 seconds. Kevin Broussard saddled Heza Fast Rogue for owner Brock Broussard. Triple M Farms, LLC is the breeder. He has earned nearly $75,000. First crop sire First Prize Dash sired fourth fastest qualifier Dashformoomoo. The Bobby Martinez trainee was a qualifier to the $245,142 LQHBA Lassie Futurity last May. Racing for Ponderosa Ranch of P C, Inc., Dashformoomoo broker her maiden while clocking a :17.752 time. Margie Loup bred the filly from the Dash Thru Traffic mare Dash Lady Love.
