Thursday night, he won his fourth consecutive starter event of 2014, each at a longer distance than the last.
Thursday’s $25,000 starter allowance at 400 yards was also the most emphatic victory of the four this season for Pure D Spit. Under jockey Jesus Salazar, the 6-year-old gelding flew from the starting gate and quickly opened up a commanding lead before crossing the line 2-1/4 lengths ahead of Dazzlin Effort in :19.419 seconds over a fast track. Owned and trained by Rodrigo Covarrubias of Wichita, Kan., Pure D Spit was the heavy 3-5 wagering favorite and paid $3.20 to win, $2.80 to place and $2.40 to show. Dazzlin Effort returned $ 7 to place and $6.80 to show. Cowboy Kudzu was third and paid $5.20 to show. Pure D Spit is and Oklahoma-bred by SPIT CURL JESS from the Pure D Dash mare Pure Princess. He has now won five races in a row dating back to October 2013. He has now won 13 of 34 career starts with six of the wins at Remington Park. Thursday’s win was worth $16,384 for Pure D Spit who rolled his career money to $170,070. |
