OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MAY 30, 2014—The final weekend of the 2014 Remington Park American Quarter Horse & Mixed-breed Season was underway Friday night. PURE D SPIT was back for one more $30,000 Starter Allowance run, this time at 440 yards. The classic Quarter Horse distance presented no troubles to the streaking gelding.

PURE D SPIT won his fifth consecutive race, finishing his local season perfect with five wins in as many attempts. Under a jubilant Jesus Salazar who delivered a couple of fist pumps while crossing the line, PURE D SPIT won by 1-3/4 lengths over I V Gone with I Am That Hero another three-quarters of a length back in third.

Owned and trained by Rodrigo Covarrubias of Wichita, Kan., PURE D SPIT was away from the starting gate quickly to gain the lead in the opening strides. Salazar provided a vigorous hand-ride, never going to the whip, and PURE D SPIT did the rest while handling 440 yards in :21.197 seconds over a fast track.

After the race, Covarrubias was presented the Starter Allowance Series Gist Buckle as PURE D SPIT won five races in the series to earn the award. PURE D SPIT’s scores came at increasing distances over the meeting: 250 yards, 300 yards, 330 yards, 400 yards and the 440 yards on Friday.

The heavy wagering favorite at 1-5 odds, PURE D SPIT paid $2.40 to win, $2.40 to place and $2.10 to show. I V Gone returned $11 to place and $10.20 to show. I Am That Hero paid $6.40 to show.

A 6-year-old Oklahoma-bred gelding by SPIT CURL JESS from the Pure D Dash mare Pure Princess, PURE D SPIT has won nine of his last 11 races with six in a row dating to October 2013. Overall, he has won 14 of 35 career attempts with seven wins at Remington Park. Friday’s victory was worth another $16,930 for PURE D SPIT who has rolled up a total of $186,990.

Remington Park has two more race dates before finishing the 2014 season. Saturday’s “Mega-Card” will feature total horsemen’s purses of $2,038,855 and is underway at 5pm.

Opening daily at 10:30am, Remington Park features the Bricktown Brewery on the casino floor. Admission, general parking and valet parking are always free at Remington Park, home of the $1,020,980 Heritage Place Futurity and $250,000 Remington Park Championship on Saturday, May 31, 2014.

Tracked by over 51,000 fans on Facebook and 5,000 Twitter followers, Remington Park is Oklahoma City’s only Racetrack & Casino and is located at the junction of Interstates 35 & 44, in the heart of the Oklahoma City Adventure District.
