PYC FIRST PRIZE JOE BOUNCES TO FASTEST MILE HIGH DERBY TRIAL TIME Date Posted: 8/1/2014 8:58:48 PM Pyc First Prize Joe, under jockey Ramiro Garcia, sets the fastest time in the Mile High Derby trials Friday afternoon at Arapahoe Park. © Coady PhotographyAURORA, CO—AUGUST 1, 2014—Claimed just three races back, Pyc First Prize Joe bounced of a second place effort in the Rocky Mountain Derby on July 12 to set the top qualifying time for the Mile High Derby Friday afternoon at Arapahoe Park.
The 10 fastest qualifiers, from the four trial races contested, will return to Arapahoe Park on Saturday, August 16 to compete for the winner's share of a $75,000 purse at 400 yards. Owned-and-trained by Jose Aguilera Pyc First Prize Joe completed his task in :19.835 seconds, a 92 speed index into an 11 mph headwind. Ramiro Garcia rode the Pyc Paint Your Wagon gelding out of First Prize Joy, by Oak Tree Special. Rodrigo Covarrublas claimed Pyc First Prize Joe from Summer Run, Inc. when he was entered in a $7,500 claiming race at Remington Park on April 11th. He finished fifth. As a 2-year-old the bay won two of six starts and finished fourth in the NCQHRA Futurity at Canterbury Park. Bred in Oklahoma by Weetona Stanley, Pyc First Prize Joe has earned $36,905. Weetona Stanley and W.E. Smith also bred 8th fastest qualifier Tollie Rossel, a Carters Cartel colt out of of Fast Prize Zoom, by Shazoom.
