PERKS PRIZE WAGON WINS NORTH DAKOTA BRED QH DERBY

North Dakota Horse Park hosted the North Dakota Bred Quarter Horse Derby and the Dan Diemert Memorial Stakes on Saturday's race card.

FARGO, ND—AUGUST 2, 2014—Perks Prize Wagon won the $8,800 North Dakota Bred Quarter Horse Derby at North Dakota Horse Park on Saturday. To be awarded black-type by AQHA, races must have a minimum purse of $15,000.

Racing over a slow track, Perks Prize Wagon completed the 350 yards in :19.250 seconds to win the North Dakota Bred Quarter Horse Derby under jockey Terry Bennett. The Pyc Paint Your Wagon colt races for Jeff and Eva Hepper and is conditioned by Junior Dolphus.

Bred by Weetona Stanley, from the Dash For Perks mare Oh Honey Rose, Perks Prize Wagon picked $4,400 for the win. He has won two of three career starts and earned $5,590.

Blurred Cash finished a neck back in second place to pickup $1,760. Terry Davis saddled the brown miss for owners Todd Nelson and Stacy Nelson. Don Proctor was aboard the John Bubel bred.

Clyde Smith rode Donthrotlemystyle to a third place finish a head behind in the blanket finish. Russel Wilson conditions the colt owned by Kevin Gefroh. Randal Schwartz bred the 3-year-old. He earned $880 for the effort.

Coronas Girl, Marksetgo, Major Dasher and Jumpn Mermaid completed the field.
