Racing for owner David Moore and trainer Jerry Ingels, First Prize Rio prevailed from the eight-position in a 250 yard $19,000 Maiden race. Ridden by jockey Randy Wilson the Desirio gelding completed his task in :13.355 seconds, to pocket the winner's check of $11,690. Bred by Weetona Stanley and W.E. Smith from the Corona Cartel mare First Prize Corona, First Prize Rio is a half-brother to stakes winner Spit Curl Daisy ($50,058), G3-placed Made To Dash ($20,050 at 2, 2015), and RG3 placed First Prize Corina ($53,857 at 2, 2015). The second dam is the former Broodmare of the Year First Prize Dash, a sister to all-time leading sire First Down Dash. She is the dam of 29 ROM including 4 Grade 1 winners and six other stakes horses. Fast Prize Rio could possibly make his next start in the $1.1 million-est. Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity(RG2) trials on April 8 or 9. |
