It was opening day for the Ruidoso Downs’ season that runs through Labor Day and the running of the Grade 1, $3 Million All American Futurity, which offers the world’s largest purse for a two-year-old race. The two-year-olds with the five-fastest times from Friday’s trials join the horses with the five-fastest times from Saturday’s trials in the 350-yard finals $1 million final on Sunday, June 12. Bred in Oklahoma by Weetona Stanley and W.E. Smith, Apollitical Chad scored defeated his rivals by 2¼ lengths while competing the 350 yards in :17.770 seconds into a 13 mph headwind. Wes Giles conditions with Adrian Ramos riding the gelded son of leading third crop sire Apollitical Jess from the stakes-placed and multiple stakes-producing Shazoom mare Fast Prize Tracy ($30,960).
