FAST PRIZE DIAMONDS BEATS BYE BYEFREIGHTTRAIN SETS FASTEST MARK FOR OHA MYSTERY DERBY Date Posted: 10/28/2016 7:45:07 PM Fast Prize Diamonds, under jockey James Flores, sets the top qualifying time in the OHA Mystery Derby trials Friday afternoon at Will Rogers Downs. © Coady PhotographyCLAREMORE, OK—OCTOBER 28, 2016—Speedhorse Derby runner-up First Prize Diamonds bested Bye Byefreighttrain by half-a-length Friday afternoon at Will Rogers to post the top qualifying mark of :17.516 seconds in the OHA Mystery Derby trials.
The 10 fastest qualifiers, from three trial races conducted today, will return to Will Rogers Downs on Saturday, November 12th to vie for the winner's share of a $64,000 purse going 350 yards. Ridden by jockey James Flores, the stakes-placed daughter of Carters Cartel earned a 95-speed index, into a 10 mph crosswind. Gerry McLean conditions the Oklahoma-bred filly for owner Gary Harstack. Bred by Weetona Stanley and W.E. Smith, First Prize Diamonds is out of the Fly Jess Fly mare First Prize Diamond. She has compiled a (10) 5-1-1 record with earnings of nearly $42,000. Winner of last year's RG3 OHA Mystery Futurity, Bye Byefreighttrain races for owner/breeder L.P. Frank. Kasey Willis conditions the son of second-crop sire Freighttrain B out of Bye Bye Bygones, by Takin On The Cash. Ridden by jockey Cesar Gomez, Byefreighttrain held on to the second fastest time of :17.594 second. The sorrel gelding has won five of 16 starts and $201,740.
