Owned and trained by Dustin Cox of Duncan, Okla. and ridden by G.R. Carter, Weetonas Lafawn won the juvenile, an event for 2-year-old Oklahoma-breds who competed in trials for the Remington Park Futurity but did not make that final. The filly handled 330 yards in 16.87 seconds over a fast track, defeating Streaks Of Ivory with VF Zeus gaining for third, three-quarters of a length back. Weetonas Lafawn was at 5-1 odds in the betting and paid $12.20 to win, $5 to place and $4.20 to show. Streaks Of Ivory returned $6.80 to place and $6.20 to show. VF Zeus paid $11 to show. The beaten favorite was First Of 15, finishing seventh at 5-2 odds. Streaks Of Ivory, a filly by Ivory James from the Fredricksburg mare Streakin Rare, races for owner Terry McClean and trainer John Weghorst. James Flores was aboard the Michael Teal Oklahoma-bred. She earned $19,910 for the effort. Vf Zeus earned $10,951 for owner/breeder Victory Farms. Brian Muse conditions the Foose gelding out of Wheely Quick by The Harder They Fall. Sergio Becerra, Jr. had the riding assignment. A winner of two races from three starts this season, Weetonas Lafawn made $59,730 in winning the Remington Park Juvenile. She is a daughter of Valiant Hero from the Mr Jess Perry mare First Prize Fancy and was bred by Weetona Stanley of Madill, Okla. Weetonas Lawfawn's half-brother, Pyc Fun N Fancy, a 2-year-old colt by Pyc Paint Your Wagon, who won the $61,800 Laico Bird Stakes Saturday night at Remington Park. Best Behavior, Makit Snappi, Rmiss Fireball, First Of 15, Heza High Return, High Valley Girl and Valiant Strawfly completed the field. |
