The Grade 2 $254,000 event at 300 yards started in 1947 and has been contested at various tracks across the southwest during its history. The Oklahoma Futurity has actually been run in two states, with La Mesa Park in Raton, N.M. hosting the race from 1965-1988. Trainer Rodney Reed, who returned to Remington Park for the first time this season after overcoming health issues, will saddle the top two qualifiers for the Oklahoma Futurity in Wanna Fly Jessie and Fly Jess Who. Wanna Fly Jessie, a first-time starter, handled her 300-yard trial, the sixth of 10 on March 8, in :15.679 under jockey G.R. Carter. Owned by Dash Stanley of Madill, Okla. and trained by Rodney Reed, Wanna Fly Jessie won by daylight. A gray 2-year-old Oklahoma-bred filly by FLY JESS FLY from the Heza Fast Man mare Wanna Be Fast will join Fly Jess Who from the Reed barn in the final. Fly Jess Who, also a daughter of first year sire FLY JESS FLY recorded a time of :15.749 and was the second-fastest behind his stable mate. Fly Jess Who is owned by Dash's father, Fred Stanley. FLY JESS FLY is a grade 1 stakes placed son of champion and leading sire Mr Jess Perry. This is his first crop to race. He stands at Oklahoma Stud in Purcell, Oklahoma.
