RECORD-SETTING WEST TEXAS WINNER SCHEDULED TO RUN AT RUIDOSO DOWNS Date Posted: 4/25/2008 1:08:50 PM RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—APRIL 24, 2008— Weetona Stanley and William Smith’s Fast Prize Zoom, who broke her own world record in the Grade 1, $300,958 West Texas Futurity last Sunday, is slated to move to Ruidoso Downs for the All American Triple Crown series of futurities, according to trainer Wes Giles. Fast Prize Zoom will likely make her next start in the trials to the Ruidoso Futurity on opening day, May 23, of the Ruidoso Downs summer season. The season culminates with the 50th running of the All American Futurity on Labor Day, closing day of the meet. “We’ll see how she comes out of this race,” Giles said after the West Texas Futurity. “She’ll be coming with my horses to Ruidoso and she’s in all three futurities.” The All American Triple Crown is comprised of the Grade 1, $500,000 Ruidoso Futurity, Grade 1, $625,000 Rainbow Futurity and the Grade 1, $2 million (est.) All American Futurity. The connections of any horse who wins all three futurities receives a $4 million bonus in addition to the winner’s share of each race. Last year, Giles won the West Texas Futurity with Wild Six and that filly then won the Rainbow Futurity at Ruidoso Downs. The filly may make her 2008 debut in the trials to the Grade 1, $500,000 (est.) Rainbow Derby on July 4. Fast Prize Zoom rallied under jockey G.R. Carter Jr. to win the West Texas Futurity by a half length in :14.678, breaking her own world record of :14.870 set in the trials. There was negligible wind during the Shazoom filly's fastest-qualifying trial effort and a stiff tail wind during her record-breaking run in the futurity. Those two world-record efforts are the filly’s only two starts. |
