Smith's First Prize Corona broke her maiden with a solid 1-1/2 length victory in a $21,000 300 yard race for 2-yea-old fillies t at Remington Park Thursday. The daughter of Corona Cartel, out Lady Bug Stallion Station's broodmare of the year First Prize Dash, by Dash For Cash, covered the 300 yards in :15.655 into a strong head wind at the Oklahoma City track. Bred by Weetona Stanley, First Prize Corona is a half-sister to grade 1 winners First Carolina, winner of the Heritage Place Futurity(G1) and Remington Park Derby(G2); First Prize Robin, winner of the Remington Park Futurity(G1); and First Prize Perry, runner-up in the Texas Classic Futurity(G1). Trained by Heath Taylor and ridden by G.R. Carter, Jr., First Prize Corona is being pointed to the Speedhorse Futurity and races this fall at Lone Star Park. |
