RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—JULY 3, 2008—World-record holder Fast Prize Zoom raced to her third win from three starts in impressive fashion while setting the fastest-qualifying time of :19.499 for 400 yards in the trials to the Grade 1, $625,000 Rainbow Futurity on Thursday afternoon at Ruidoso Downs.

The horses with the 10-fastest times from the 14 trials qualify to race in the Rainbow Futurity on July 20.

The West Giles -trained Fast Prize Zoom was making her first start since winning the Grade 1, $300,000 West Texas Futurity on April 20. She easily won the ninth trial by and length and a quarter with national champion jockey G.R. Carter Jr. aboard.

“When I warmed her up she acted a little fresh on the backstretch and then in the gate,” said Carter. “She settled down and broke well. I got into her a little bit and then just let her run. She’s one of those horses who’s faster than she looks when she’s running.”

Carter also rode second-fastest qualifier Stolis Winner, fifth-fastest qualifier Ravin Corona and sixth-fastest qualifier Dashazoom. Carter has a decision to make on who to ride in the finals, but Fast Prize Zoom’s stellar record could be a major factor in his choice of Rainbow Futurity mounts.

Owned by Weetona Stanley and William Smith, Fast Prize Zoom set world records in her two previous starts, the West Texas Futurity trials and finals. In her career debut she set the world record for 300 yards of :14.870 with a negligible tail wind. The Shazoom filly then lowered that record to :14.678 when she won the West Texas Futurity by a half length with a brisk tail wind.

Giles freshened the filly after the West Texas win to focus on the Rainbow and All American futurities this summer at Ruidoso Downs. “We didn’t push her very hard [in her training]. I’m really pleased with her time since she wasn’t tuned up for this race,” Giles said.
