FIRST PRIZE TIMBER QUALIFIES TO GRADE 1 $1,024,682 ALL AMERICAN DERBY Date Posted: 8/15/2008 8:36:16 PM RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—AUGUST 15, 2008—In just his fourth career start, First Timber qualified to the Grade 1, $1,024,682 All American Derby during five trials run on Friday afternoon at Ruidoso Downs. The 440-yard All American Derby will be the richest race on a four stakes race program at Ruidoso Downs on August 31. Racing for Weetona Stanley and William E. Smith, the lightly raced First Timber has a 2-0-0 record from four career starts. He broke his maiden by 1-1/4 lengths at first asking last season at Remington Park and came into the All American Derby trials off a ½ length Ruidoso Allowance win on July 12. Trained by M Heath Taylor, First Timber would join several of his siblings as grade 1 winners if he can take home the $512,341 first-place check in the All American Derby, quarter horse racing’s richest derby in 2008. Champion jockey G.R. Carter, Jr. was in the irons to qualify. Sired by World Champion Oak Tree Special, the gorgeous black colt is out of former American Quarter Horse Racing Broodmare of the Year, First Prize Dash. She is a full sister to All-Time Leading Sire First Down Dash.
First Prize Dash has produced 11 ROM including three grade 1 winners. Her stakes winners include Heritage Place Futurity(G1) winner First Carolina; Remington Park Futurity(G1) winner First Prize Robin; Heritage Place Futurity(G1) winner Fast First Prize; Blue Ribbon Futurity(G2) winner Heza Fast Dash; and Texas Classic Futurity(G1) runner-up First Prize Perry.
