Photo by Gene Wilson & AssociatesSALLISAW, OK—NOVEMBER 16, 2008—Weetona Stanley of Lady Bug Stallion Station bred three finalist, including the top two qualifiers, to the $250,000-estimated Black Gold Futurity Championship-RG3 during trials run Sunday afternoon at Blue Ribbon Downs near Sallisaw. The ten finalists will return on November 30 to contest the 400 yard final at Blue Ribbon Downs. Two of the three trials were won by foals of Lady Bug Stallion Station's blue hen former Broodmare of the Year First Prize Dash. First Prize Paris, co-owned with Stanley by W.E. Smith, won the second of three trials in :19.912 seconds for the fastest clocking of the afternoon. The Mr Jess Perry filly is a full sister to grade 1 winner First Carolina, First Prize Robin and the grade 1 stakes-placed First Prize Perry. Another full sibling, First Prize Stanley was the top selling yearling this season at Ruidoso with a final bid of $675,000. First Prize Paris finished second in the Black Gold 330 Futurity in her last start. She has a 4-2-0 record from seven starts this season, has earned more than $68,000, and was also a finalist in the Speedhorse Futurity(RG1) over the summer. The final trial was won by Smith and L. Scherwinski's First Prize Timber by half-length over Fly Like Me. The Oak Tree Special colt covered the 400 yards in :19.934 seconds. The stakes-placed colt pushed his career record to 3-1-1 from seven starts while earning in excess of $45,000. He finished third in the Black Gold 330 Futurity and was also a finalist in the Speedhorse Futurity(RG1). He is a full brother to First Timber who qualified the All American Derby(G1) at Ruidoso Downs last summer. Fly Like Me a home-bred gelding of Ms. Stanley finished second to First Prize Timber in the final trial while scoring the fourth fastest qualifying time of :20.004. Sired by first year sire Fly Jess Fly, the sorrel gelding has finished second in four of seven starts this year while earning in excess of $24,000. In his last start he was second by a nose in the Black Gold 350 Futurity at Blue Ribbon Downs. He is out of the Lady Bug Stallion Station mare Wanna Be Me by Disco Jerry-TB. From a limited number of seven starters this season, Fly Jess Fly has sired four winners including the multiple graded stakes-placed runner Wanna Fly Jessie, an earner of $45,258, who was second in the Easy Jet Stakes(G3) and third in the Oklahoma Futurity(RG2). Fly Jess Fly, a grade 1 stakes-placed son of leading sire Mr Jess Perry, stands at Oklahoma Stud near Purcell, Oklahoma. |
