Photo by Gene Wilson & AssociatesTULSA, OK—JUNE 6, 2009—Oh Cherokee Rose, a 4-year-old filly who was a grade 1 stakes placed runner at 2, earned her first career stakes win on Saturday night when she romped to a 1 ¼ length victory in the $20,000 Belles Stakes at Fair Meadows.
The 350 yard event for 3-Year-Old & Up Fillies and Mares drew a full field of 10 runners and was clocked at :17.653 seconds. Winning with authority, the Stoli daughter picked up $11,730 to push her career earnings to $107,083. Racing for Jose Cervantes, she was saddled by Luis Villafranco and ridden by Roy Brooks. Bred in Oklahoma by Weetona Stanley, Oh Cherokee Rose finished third in the 2007 Remington Park Futurity(G1). She is out of the Lady Bug Stallion Station mare Oh Whtta Perks, by Dash For Perks. Villafranco also saddled the runner-up, Kitty D Ville, for owner/breeder Richard Joneson. Adalberto Candanosa was on board for the ride worth $3,910. Owner/trainer Henry Smith's Zoots Toots was a neck off for third. The 5-year-old mare was ridden by Mike Freerick.
Completing the field were Beautiful World, Shezafastfeature, Fish On Cap, Gingers Special Eyes, Chantell Corona and Honey In Stone.
